Time passes

Time passes so fast!  I have not updated my blog for a long time, and my last post was about our Chickens, Hazel and Tin-hen.  Henry (our dog) used to chase them and we had to keep him on the chain.  It was hard when ever he got off his chain!  Once Sarah, (she is three) let him off the chain and was delighted.  He took off towards the chickens, who felt very safe when Henry was on his chain.  I just happened to be near,(but the only problem was I was in roller-skates) and started out as fast as I could.  But you can't run very fast when you are in roller skates.  The main thing you do is fall down when you try to run.  That is what happened to me.  I got up as fast as I could, but didn't have time to take off the roller-skates.  It was really hard, but I made it down the stairs.  I couldn't go any farther, (be cause you can't make out on the rough ground when you are in skates) and frantically tried to catch Henry. First he ran one way, and I almost caught him, and then he came back the other way and I caught him.  By then everybody else had come out, and Moses took Henry for me so I could take off my skates.  The chickens had had a terrible fright.  Henry got off his chain another time, but that is a whole different story for later, when my hands feel like typing some more, for now they are tired.

Hazel and Tin-hen ready for bed.

Hazel and Tin-Hen are two of the hens you heard about in my last post.  They are very smart.  When one of them goes one way, the other will follow.  One night when we had to put them up for the night, we could not find them.  After a while, they were spotted sitting on the porch, waiting for us to put them to bed.  The next night we tryed to put them up to early, and it was very hard.  But on Tuesday night, we had to go to Fiddle Camp, and we were a little bit worried about them.  So when we got home, I jumped out and ran to see what might have become of the chickens. (They are free range chickens).  I looked and they were not there, and again were found on the porch waiting for us to put them to bed.  The next night we were expecting it.  I waited and watched, waited and watched, but nothing happend.  Soon Mamma said, "If you leave them alone, they might be a little more likely come up." So I did. I finished my work in the kitchen, and got ready for bed.  When I came out again, and they were ready. Sitting on the porch waiting calmly.

The adventures of Henny-penny Barley White

Yesterday was Friday, and we did our errands. Last of all we went to the Smiths house, and got three Chickens. They were not chicks, but they where not full grown. They found that there favorite place is under our porch, (which is very hard to get to.)  We called the largest one "Hazel", the middle sized one we called "Tin-hen" and the smallest was my favorite.  We called her "Henny-penny Barley White." All three of them were black with yellow legs.

The first day we had them, this was there only acess to food and water.
A plastic bowl for water, and a taco bell cup for there food. (but they splilled each of them about 30 times a day.)

The first night was even worse. I (Bekah) had just slipped in to my night-gown, and suddenly, I remembered "Chicken Chores", and ran out to do them with out thinking about my night-gown.  Moses, Mamma and I ran out to do them, and spent awile holding flash lights and trying ot fix them up for the night.  (we had nowhere for them to sleep in the night.)  At last we had it all fixed and were getting ready to go to bed, when we noticed the chickens had all gotten out.  We must have been a funny sight, flying all around like we where, (the hens were really fast.)  I cought tin-hen, put her in, (forgot to close the door,) left Mamma to catch Hazel, and ran to help Moses catch Henny-penny.  She was the fastest one, and I began to get worried, because it was quite dark, and she was going in to the woods.  Moses and I chased her until we lost track of her, and went home. If you want one last detail, we had lost track of ourselves too. (but then we saw the lights of the house and followed them, until we got home. I found Mamma holding Hazel.  This morning, Mamma and I got in the car and went to ask our neighbors of they had seen a little black cornish hen named, Henny-penny Barely White. No one had................ And I think that was the end of Henny-penny Barley White. (but it might not be, because if anyone finds her, they know where we live.)

Good-day!

What the name of the blog means

When I was just a wee thing, I would love to sing, "Mary had a little lamb" but, I would sing it all in my own "Baby language". I would call it, "Yittle Yamb". That is why I called my blog, "Da Yittle Yamb".
